Willingness to Serve 2010-2011

Dear Fellow Connect Florida Members

I want to thank the members of this year's Board of Governors for their continued commitment to Connect Florida. As Chair, it is my privilege to also serve as chair of the Nominating Committee which will determine the leadership positions for the 2010-11 year -- which begins at the conclusion of this year's Annual Meeting (June 18-19). Those with whom I have the privilege of serving are our incoming chair Tyler Cathey, attorney at Holland & Knight in Tampa, and Cameron Sisser, legislative aide for Senator Dan Gelber. Our committee is responsible for submitting a slate of nominees for Connect Florida's Board of Governors and to our membership during our annual meeting in June.

I hope that you will consider serving in a leadership position in our organization as we embark on the implementation of our new statewide programs:

and much more!

Each year, the Nominating Committee works to ensure a smooth transition into the following year, recognizing the long-term goals and objectives of the organization, and that is served to a degree by having strong continuity in leadership. To that end, I'm writing to ask you to please consider serving in a leadership position during the coming year, and if you believe that you have the time to do so, let us know by clicking on the link below, completing the form and faxing (850-521-1229) or e-mailing it to Sara Bennett at sbennett@leadershipflorida.org, by no later than Monday, May 10.

Complete the Willingness to Serve Form

Whether you decide to take on a leadership role or not, your participation in Connect Florida, through recruiting future members, paying dues, and/or attending regional or statewide programs, we very much appreciate your continued commitment to the organization and look forward to seeing you at upcoming events!

Sincerely,
Ana Maria Rodriguez
Chair, Connect Florida

Opportunities to Serve

STATEWIDE COMMITTEES & Chair Positions

Communications Chair & Committee

The Communications Committee shall develop and manage the external communications of the Corporation and shall oversee and provide editorial guidance for the publication of a Member newsletter, the annual Member directory, Corporation web site, and promotional materials for Connect Florida. The Chair of the Communications Committee shall be appointed annually by the Chair with the advice and consent of the Nominating Committee.

Development Chair & Committee

The Development Committee shall coordinate efforts for the solicitation of funding to support the Corporation’s projects and programs as necessary to ensure the long-term financial viability of the Corporation. The Chair of the Development Committee shall be appointed annually by the Chair with the advice and consent of the Nominating Committee.

Institute Chair

Plan and implement the Connect Florida Statewide Leadership Institute, including but not limited to: securing host institutions, event sponsors, and all logistics involved with the entire program. This is done in concert with the Connect Florida/Leadership Florida Staff. Institute Chair is also responsible for coordinating with all other committee chairs including Fundraising and Communications, and the Treasure position to ensure maximum success of the program. This is a one year position.

Membership Chair & Committee

The Membership Committee shall oversee the identification, retention and recruitment of membership in the Corporation. The Membership Committee shall have no fewer than three (3) members. The Chair of the Membership Committee shall be appointed annually by the Chair with the advice and consent of the Nominating Committee.

Mission/Vision Revision Committee

As Connect Florida embarks on many new projects we would like to take a close look at our current Mission and Vision to ensure that they reflect our current direction. Members on this committee will need to have some knowledge of the program history and current programs. This is a short-term, ad-hoc committee that will convene for this specific project only.

Regional Chairs & Councils

Regional Chairs will serve as the liaisons between Leadership Florida’s regional councils and members and Connect Florida’s regions. Regional councils are charged with organizing Statewide Forum Series events quarterly. The regions work together to ensure that members throughout the state are constantly informed of top local and statewide issues. Regional Chairs are responsible for acting as liaisons between area local young professional groups and Connect Florida. Fostering good relationships with local groups enables us to work together to reach all of Florida’s young professionals; and since each organization provides a different level of depth to its members, we encourage all of Connect Florida’s members to participate in their local YPG as well. The nominating committee will select up to five (6) people to sit on each regional council, and then council members will select a chair from among themselves. Sitting on a regional council is a two year position.

Statewide Forum Series Committee

The Forum Series is a method for the regions to host quarterly events addressing statewide issues in lockstep with each other. The Forum Series Committee is a standing committee charged with identifying, studying, and recommending Forum Series topics to the Board of Governors. The committee is comprised of one Chair, selected annually by the Nominating Committee and one member from each Regional Board. The duty of the committee is to annually review potential topics and recommend at least eight (8) topics to the Board for consideration at the annual meeting. This is a one year position.

Meetings

Currently the Board of Governors has a standing conference call scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month. Individual committees meet at the discretion of the chair.
