Statewide Leadership Institute
A program of Leadership Florida, Connect Florida is working to accomplish its mission through the establishment of the Connect Florida Statewide Leadership Institute. The goal of the Institute is to give young professionals the tools they need to advance in both their personal and professional lives, with the hope they will stay in Florida and use their leadership to make Florida a better place.
Connect Florida is looking for very talented young people who have some leadership experience, and who truly want to make a difference in their local communities and in Florida as a whole. The Institute applicants should be young professionals between the ages of 21 and 35 who have already demonstrated their leadership skills in their chosen profession and community.

Applications Due: May 7, 2010
Apply for the Connect Florida Statewide Leadership Institute and create history. Participate in the inaugural class, and generations of Florida’s young leaders will continue in the program you were instrumental in founding. Connect Florida is the first statewide young professionals program in the nation, and similarly the Statewide Leadership Institute is the only program of its kind. Class I Details
SESSION I: Putting Leadership Theory into Action
October 1-3, 2010
Host: Jacksonville University, Jacksonville
Program includes a comprehensive 360 degree in-depth analysis using integrated technology and a one-on-one professional evaluation assessment.
- • Development of a Personalized Leadership Plan (PLP) to realize strengths as a leader
- • Implementation of PLP, "How to achieve more"
- • Tools to integrate PLP into business and industry to achieve measurable results
SESSION II: Know Your State
February 11-13, 2011
TDB, Tampa
Statewide experts will engage participants on issues affecting Florida including, but not limited to:
- • Economy
- • Transportation
- • Energy
- • Growth Management
- • History/Culture
- • Business Opportunities
- • Affordable Housing
- • Taxes
- • Government
- • Environment
- • Agriculture
Graduates will be able to make informed decisions about the issues affecting Florida and use the information to improve their businesses and communities.
SESSION III: Making an Impact
May 20-22, 2011
Host: Barry University, Miami
Participants will learn how to impact their organizations, communities and our state, and how to create a change model to achieve a desired result. They will also learn about the importance of servant leadership.
- Board Service - Explore the roles and responsibilities of a non- profit board of directors. Participants will be matched with participating organizations and encouraged to serve in open positions.
- Get Active - Elected officials will discuss how everyday citizens participate in the legislative process, with emphasis at the grassroots level.
- Presenting Yourself - Learn the art of "Becoming an Approachable Leader, Making and Creating Change and Talking the Talk - Public Speaking".
